A family member can usually help someone make a Universal Credit claim, but the claimant normally needs to provide their own information and confirm the claim. With the claimant’s permission, you may help online, attend appointments or speak to Universal Credit on their behalf. If they cannot manage their claim because of illness or another reason, they may be able to appoint someone to act for them, known as an appointee; the Department for Work and Pensions decides whether this is appropriate.
