Being a single parent does not automatically qualify you for Housing Benefit. Most working-age renters now claim the housing costs element of Universal Credit instead, although Housing Benefit may still apply if you live in supported or temporary accommodation, or have reached State Pension age. Your income, savings, rent, household circumstances and local rules can affect what support is available.
