Housing Benefit is help with rent for people on a low income, but most working-age renters now claim the housing costs part of Universal Credit instead. You may still claim Housing Benefit if you have reached State Pension age or live in certain supported, sheltered or temporary accommodation. The amount depends on your income, savings, household circumstances, eligible rent and local rules, so it may not cover the full rent. Apply through your local council, or check the official GOV.UK Housing Benefit guidance to see which benefit you should claim.
