You may be able to claim Housing Benefit for supported accommodation if you have a liability to pay rent, meet the income and residence rules, and your accommodation fits the relevant legal definition. Some supported or exempt accommodation is dealt with through Housing Benefit rather than Universal Credit housing costs, but simply receiving support does not automatically qualify you. The council will assess your income, rent, household circumstances and the organisation providing your accommodation and support. Check the official GOV.UK guidance and contact your local council’s benefits team for a decision on your circumstances.
