It depends on the type and level of course. Child Benefit can usually continue after age 16 if your child is in approved full-time, non-advanced education, such as A levels or Scottish Highers, or certain approved training, generally until they turn 20. It normally does not continue for a university or other advanced education course. Payments may also stop if your child starts paid work for 24 hours or more a week, claims certain benefits, or leaves the course, so check the latest rules on GOV.UK and tell HMRC about any changes.
