You can usually claim Child Benefit if you’re responsible for a child under 16, or under 20 if they remain in approved education or training. Only one person can receive Child Benefit for each child, and you do not normally need to be the child’s parent. Your income does not usually stop you claiming, but the High Income Child Benefit Charge may apply if your adjusted net income is over £60,000, with the amount increasing up to £80,000.
