You may usually claim Child Benefit if you are responsible for a child under 16, or under 20 if they remain in approved education or training. The child does not always have to live with you, but you normally need to provide their care or contribute at least the amount of Child Benefit towards their upkeep, and only one person can claim for each child. Your income does not normally prevent a claim, although a High Income Child Benefit Charge may apply. Check the latest rules and claim through the official GOV.UK Child Benefit guidance.
